A while back I took a picture of my "memory" necklace. I must have known that it was going to have an accident. I have been adding to this necklace for years starting with the family crest that I purchased after going to Scotland. I would add to the necklace as I found items or was given some small memento. While I was working the other night, I bent to pick something up and the necklace chain caught on a shelf...BAM!!! it was now in pieces....wah! This has happened in the past but I always had a replacement chain handy. Not so this time. I gathered up all the pieces that I could find but realized later that the little star/scull piece was gone. I have no idea where it ended up and while I am sad I also feel that perhaps it was time for it to go onto somewhere else...or will turn up soon. It is possible that it fell off before the necklace shattered. Below is a picture of the necklace before the accident. I will now be in search of a new chain.....

Job hunting in a bad economy

Flashback to 2010:

The economy is bad....we all know this. It has been bad for a very long time but most of us closed our eyes to it because we just assumed that things would get better. They have bounced back quite successfully during my lifetime. But not this time. We are facing the prospect that things may not get better for a very long time. And most Americans do not have a very long time to wait. They are in dire straights and it seems that there are still masses of people who continue to turn a blind eye to how bad the situation is.

It is easier, I suppose, to continue to believe that those who are unemployed are just not trying to find work. Those on welfare, living on the streets (or close to that), holding signs begging for help, standing in lines at food banks, etc are just not wanting to change their status. They enjoy being in this situation and if they would just try harder they could be upstanding citizens like you. Pointing the finger at others and judging why they are where they are is easier than believing that they are there because the rich and powerful have raped this country. Whatever.
Sigh.

I am a bit frustrated today over what I read in the news and see posted on social networking sites. Why is there no compassion for those people who have lost their jobs and homes? I understand that perhaps there is a feeling that these people should have been better prepared, better educated, better ...whatever. But the reality is that many people entered the workforce at a young age working all their lives without degrees. They had families, bought homes, paid taxes and saw themselves easing into retirement. Then they were laid off. The jobs that were available either required a degree, specialized training with years of experience that they did not have, or paid such a small pittance that taking those jobs would cause them to lose everything because they would not be able to pay their mortgages.

The above paragraphs were written in September of 2010. It is now seven years later but things have not improved all that much. I am thankful that I have employment but I am still not making the income that I was making in  2009. There are millions who are still suffering from the downturn our economy took and unfortunately I do not believe that those in power have the compassion needed to fix things.

So...yeah....here we are.

Today I woke with my heart aching. Feeling lost and unable to handle anything. But then this lyric began rolling through my mind,

Yeah it's all alright
I guess it's all alright
I got nothing left inside of my chest,
But it's all alright
Yeah, it's all alright
I guess it's all alright
I got nothing left inside of my chest,
But it's all alright

The rest of the song's lyrics are too cutting, too deep to stare at. My heart is bleeding today. Won't someone come to save me from myself? No. Not today. Not today.

I miss you.
